Importing areas of interest

Importing areas of interest is useful when you want to load a number of predefined catchment areas, for example.

You can import up to 15 areas of interest at once. To import more than 15 areas, you can import the same file multiple times. Each time the file is imported, any previously imported areas will be skipped. For example, if you have a file with 45 areas of interest, you must import that file three times.

  1. Select Places of interest.

The Places of interest pane opens.

  2. Select Import areas.
  3. Select Browse and the files to be imported.

To import areas from an ASCII file, select a .txt file. The file must define polygons with at least three corners each:

    Corners:

    R16_RWY
    61.86503 26.38712
    61.93871 26.36400
    61.95031 26.57441
    61.82320 26.69773
    R16_1MD
    61.93568 25.78115
    61.99358 25.80816
    61.99890 25.93676
    61.94572 25.91464

To import areas from a shapefile, select the set of files that form the shapefile. Required files are .shp, .shx, .dbf, and .prj.

The shapefile must define polygons as closed perimeters.

  4. If you want to show the area name on the map, select Show name on map .
  5. Configure alert settings for the imported areas similarly to creating a new area of interest.
The alert settings will apply to each imported area. Individual areas can be edited after importing.
